Year 4

Welcome to Year 4
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to Year 4. Our core values comprise of Collaboration, Independence and Creativity. We, as a school, really appreciate all the support of our parents/carers. If you have any concerns or questions please arrange an appointment with your child’s class teacher via the school home learning diary or the school office.

Weekly tasks include reading daily at home, learning spellings and practising the multiplication tables. In addition, we also set exciting home learning projects that will be linked to some of the topics. Topic learning is set out in tasks, spread over a period of weeks, each of which contributes to the finished project.

Home Learning Diaries
Your child will be provided with a home school diary for any communication between home and school. Parents / carers are encouraged to look at it regularly, read any messages and use it as a point of contact.

In order to help your child prepare for learning in Year 4 it is essential they bring to school a black handwriting pen, a pencil, a green biro pen, a glue stick, a rubber, a dry wipe pen and a highlighter. The following can be purchased from the school office: black handwriting pens (20p), green biro pens (20p) swimming hats (£1) and water bottles (£1.25).

Games and swimming
Games and swimming will take place on Tuesday afternoon a week. It is important that your child has the right kit. Please see the “School Essentials” page for the full list of correct kit. We would recommend that your child should bring both games and swimming kits if unsure; a timetable will be sent home at the beginning of each term.

As a school we insist on high standards of behaviour and believe it is important to work with parents/carers to achieve this. Problems are more likely to be solved successfully if parents/carers and teachers work together; you will be kept informed about any concerns as they occur.

All items of uniform and sports kit must be clearly labelled.

As a school we offer an integrated creative curriculum. Our subjects are delivered via topic based learning, These topics include:
The Human Body
The Tudors.
The Egyptians
Our Local Environment Study (Ham Common)
